The Custer National Cemetery is maintained by the National Park Service as part of the Little Bighorn National Monument. The cemetery was established in 1886 and was officially closed to future internments in 1978. The cemetery is the final resting place for about 4,900. Many graves are re-internments from closed military forts around Montana and Wyoming. The cemetery has graves of veterans from Indian Wars, Spanish American War, World War One, World War Two, Korean War, and Vietnam.
