Emmons Glacier is one of Mt. Rainier's 26 glaciers and can best be viewed from the Sunrise Visitor area of Mt. Rainier National Park. Glaciers cover 35 square miles of the mountain, making it the most glaciated peak in the lower 48 states.

Emmons Glacier has a surface area of 4.3 square miles, the largest area of any glacier in the contiguous United States. A rockfall off of Little Tahoma in the 1960's insulated the lower glacier in debris and because of that insulation the glacier is advancing rapidly.

The coordinates are for the Emmons Vista. To reach the vista, take the Emmons Vista trail from the parking lot. It's a short tenth of a mile to the overlook from the parking lot. Another great view is from a trail out of White River Campground.
