Halfway North Monument along US41 in Oconto County, WI. Latitude 45 N. Theoretical Half Way Point.
North Pole 3117.55 miles. Equator 3097.39 miles. The spheroidal shape of the earth makes degrees of latitude in the north longer than in the south. The true halfway point between pole and equator on Highway 41 is (sorry, my picture is not quite clear enough to make out all of the rest of the text). Erected by Frank E. Noyes 1938.
There was/is an almost identical marker on US141 west of here erected by the same person in the same year, 1938. I have a picture of it, but do not have the waymark for it. The highway has recently been changed from a 2 lane to a 4 lane road, and I was unable to find the monument again.
