In its location, setting, and total isolation, and in terms of the number of historic buildings and associated mining remains that have survived in unusually good condition, Bodie is probably the finest example of a mining "ghost town" in the West. The most complete and interesting description can be found on the Wikipedia page for this ghost town. It's a fabulous example of the old west with a remarkable amount of structures still remaing virtually intact. That's something to be said because of the number of fires that used to burn down whole towns, Bodie included. Here is the Official State Park website for the town. The Wikimapia page for the town has some really good resources locating buildings and their names within the park. The links also show pictures of the individual buildings if there have been any posted. This page is a very nice gallery of pictures from the town along with some historical comments. Professional photography worthy of framing! Just a simple Google search for Bodie, CA provides a mountain of resources and photos.
