Located at 150 North Scott Street (the northeast corner of Scott Street and Clinton Street), the downtown Joliet Post Office once served as the Main Post Office for the City of Joliet starting in 1903.
Although it stopped being the Main Post Office in 1981 once a new, more modern facility was constructed, it still serves as a Post Office for the downtown businesses and residents.
Also in 1981, the Joliet Post Office was placed on the National Register of Historic Places for its "massive Ionic columns" designed by James Knox Tyler.
