Irish settlers in southeast Iowa erected this large brick and sandstone Catholic church in 1860 replacing an earlier log cabin. The settlement known as Georgetown no longer exists as a town but the church still stands on a hill top by Highway 34 between Albia and Chariton. It has been called "The Cathedral of the Prairie".
