Osceola has been the county seat of Clarke County since it was formed in 1851. A simple frame building courthouse was replaced in 1892 and the present modern L-shaped one story brick courthouse was constructed in 1956. It stands in nicely landscaped downtown courthouse square which features a bell tower holding a large bell salvaged from the previous courthouse.
