Visiting this falls requires a walk of 0.9 mile (one way), with a moderate elevation change of 100 feet. The good news is that it is a downhill path as your return to your car!

In winter, this is a great hike along an uncrowded trail, with views upward out of the valley. In summer, you can watch folks drifting down the stream in tubes. And there is a cool mist at the bottom of the falls to refresh you.

To reach from Bryson City, go north on Everette Street. Cross the railroad tracks and go another 100 yards. Watch for a "Y" to the right. This is Toot Hollow Road, and a reliable marker is the small directional sign for the Folkestone Inn.

Follow Toot Hollow Road for about 2 miles. Turn left onto West Deep Creek Road, which leads into the park. At a barricade gate, turn left into the parking lot. Continue on foot along the creek on a wide, well-graded pathway.

Pass Toms Branch Falls, and continue another 0.6 mile along the stream, to the intersection with Indian Creek Trail. Turn right and go a few hundred feet. A side trail to the left descends to the base of the falls.

A few miles away, and also worth seeing:
"The Road to Nowhere". A road construction project abandoned in the 1940's. Follow Everette Street northward from downtown Bryson City. After several miles, it becomes a paved parkway, passing through beautiful mountain scenery. After about three miles, at a barricade, pull into a parking area on the right. Continue on foot 0.2 mile to a dinstinctly spooky, several-hundred-foot long tunnel. (Flashlight recommended.) Just beyond the tunnel, the road becomes a horse trail.
