The school bell is now behind a mesh screen to keep the birds out. Older nearby residents can remember the school being open, as it closed in 1926. Pupils went to Coniston CoE School by train. It lay in decay for many years, until villagers tried to buy it back in 1950's. Instead the church allowed them to repair the building and use it as a village facility. Now used as a busy village hall with parking space for walkers venturing onto the Coniston fells. Found on the side of A593 main road between Coniston and Broughton.
On south end above a window is a dedication stone, which reads.
"Torver school Rebuilt by voluntary subscription 1872, for church of England Sunday and Day school, Thomas Ellwood, Rector, John Browne Churchwarden."
