Mother Basilea and Mother Martyria began their ministry by taking a stand against the Nazis in their native Germany. After the war, on March 30th, 1947, they had their inaugural ceremony of the Evangelical Sisterhood of Mary in the home of Mother Basilea's parents, Steinberg House, which had largely escaped the bombing. In May 1949 Mother Basilea was inwardly directed to build a chapel for the Lord Jesus. From there, the sisterhood has 15 convents spread around the world.
The convent, with its sisters from many different denominations, has been here at least 35 years now. They have books and a garden for visitors to enjoy. This protestant sisterhood welcomes visitors. The garden is open dawn to dusk. The sisterhood welcomes visitors to worship and mini retreats as well.
