Brook Hill Farm is located in Bedford County, Virginia, and consists of 44 acres. The home that currently stands on the property is thought to have been designed by the original owner Graham Webb who moved to the area and built the home in 1904.

Also included on the property are the original icehouse, hog barn and blacksmith’s shop and a schoolhouse, which was built in 1909, is now used as a guesthouse.

The land where the present dwelling sits was originally part of the surrounding Bellevue Plantation. Robert Steptoe is the earliest recorded owner of the property and the first building here dates back to 1790. This building and all others built during this period have long been destroyed.

During the Civil War, the property was owned by James Holcombe, who was a member of the Confederate Congress, a member of President Jefferson Davis’s cabinet and a professor at the University of Virginia. Mr. Holcombe was also the founder of Bellevue High School for Boys.

From 1882 – 1904 the property changed hands several time, and in 1904 Graham Webb took possession of the property and began building the house that currently stands on the property. The icehouse, barns and old schoolhouse still stand on the property and are in use to day.

Today, Brook Hill Farm is privately owned and is still a working farm. Please be respectful of the property when visiting this waymark.
