Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this tower, especially for birders, is that sometimes the rare snowy owl or gyrfalcon, (highly mobile birds which can be on the dunes on either side of the inlet as well) can be spotted sitting on top of the tower. This town is filled sometimes with birders during early April.
The water tower is very close to "Old Barney", which of course is the Barnegat Light House. After visiting the water tower, make sure you continue to the end of the end of the road and visit Barnegat Lighthouse State Park (N 39° 45.875 W 074° 06.337). The water tower is located just off 10th street. If you check the coordinates out on Google Earth beforehand (which I highly recommend) you will get a good lay of the land.
