Painstakingly built in 1915! The original brickwork is still there! This spooky portion on the Allegheny Bike Trail will darken a half-mile of your trip as you travel back into time. You'll also notice a twenty degree dip in the temperature. Observe the many man-sized alcoves inside where workers would have to hide when a noisy train passed through. The east end of the tunnel offers its own rainstorm as spring water gushes from holes in the ceiling. This is the dangerous end, so watch out for falling and fallen bricks on the path. Make sure you have a flashlight or bike headlamp and travel in pairs or groups to avoid an ambush by ne'er-do-wells! The endless graffiti in the tunnel proves there are local roustabouts who hang out there sometimes! (Didn't see any myself) Oh yes, there may be bats.
