The Columbia Southern Railroad began from the Union Pacific at Biggs on the Columbia and was completed to Wasco in 1897 and to Shaniko in 1901. This depot was built in 1897 and served until Dec. 1964 when a flood destroyed over 8 miles of grade and 24 of 26 brigdes on the railroad and the Union Pacific decided not to rebuild the railroad.
