Lower Richland Creek - Canoe/Kayak Trips on Waymarking.com

The put-in for this run is the same as the take-out for Upper Richland Creek and there will often be many vehicles here for people running both sections if the water is there.

The lower section, while not as high-octane as the upper section, still requires some experience to run and is not recommended for beginers.

Also unlike the upper run there is a farm road that parallel's the last 2/3rds of the run on river right at varying distances from 1/4 to 1/2 miles. However it is still a long way to get help so all paddlers should be familar with swiftwater rescue and self rescue. A more detailed description can be found here.

Parking/put-in/launching information: There is usually plenty of parking on both sides of the creek at the low-water bridge that seperates upper and lower Richland Creek. Additional parking can be found at the nearby Richland Creek Campground. Take-out parking is much more limited. Paddling conditions to be expected: A strong Class II-III+ float that can become class IV+ at high water levels. Difficulty of the trip: Novice paddlers can be guided down this run by an experienced partner, but should at least be familiar with swiftwater self-rescue and have a decent combat roll. Length of trip: 8.5 miles Portages: None Permits required: Fishing permit as required, but it's not likely you'll want to bring fishing gear on this run. Type of trip: 30 minute (each way) shuttle on gravel/dirt forrest roads can be accomplished in most cars with care but a truck is recommended. Take-out Coordinates: N 35° 53.385 W 092° 53.756 Other information: The parking at the take-out is limited to roadside parking on a forrest service road that fords the creek onto private land. As you near the take-out, you will pass a 20-ft tall bluff on river left as you enter a willow thicket. Stay left as the creek braids around an island. The take-out road is here. Going right will likely mean paddling the extra mile of flatwater and a long hike back to your vehicle from the FS road 1201 crossing.
