This easy, scenic class I float is a popular trip in the central part of Arkansas, especially during the dry summer months. It can be floated during the minimum regulated release but is much more enjoyable during power generation from the dam.

Some ways to check the water level:

Recorded message at 501-844-2125.
USGS gauge at the Remmel Dam
The Entergy page

The recorded message is updated daily if the PLANNED schedule changes, the gauge updates roughly once an hour. The Entergy page updates every 15 minutes. On that page scroll down near the bottom and look for the flow from Remmel Dam. 200-300 is normal flow, 2000 and up means they are generating.

Many of the locals will make this run with nothing more than a pool float or inner-tube and the only place where there is more than a class I riffle is just above the take-out where there is a river-spanning ledge that creates several choices of channels to choose from. On extreme river-right is Tiger's Jaw, a technical class III while across the majority of the rest of the river are several unnamed class II chutes, the easiest of which is the one on extreme river-left where the greatest hazard is avoiding the playboaters surfing the wave. The boat-ramp is just below the ledge on river-left.

Parking/put-in/launching information:
The last 100 yards or so are rutted gravel road but should pose no major problem for access. Parking is a large gravel area near the boat ramp.

Paddling conditions to be expected:
Class I riffles with one final Class II ledge near the take out.

Difficulty of the trip:
Basic water safety and the ability to pilot your water craft.

Length of trip: 4.5 miles - can be done in as little as 1 hour.
