I have not been able to determine the age or capacity of this tank. With permission from Lawrence Transportation, I examined the four legs and the standpipe, looking for a label, but I did not find one.

The tank was constructed as part of a complete utility system consisting of the tank and also facilities for treating waste water. It served a 50-acre site known as the Globe Industrial Park. According to records at the Wake County Courthouse, the land (including the tank) was foreclosed by a bank in the mid-1970’s. Since then, it has changed hands several times. The tank sits near the center of “Tract 5”, which is 7.79 acres in size.

You can see the tank when driving west on I-540, between US-70 and Lumly Road. To reach from I-540, take Exit 2B and go north on Aviation Parkway. Turn right on Globe Road, and take an immediate right. This also is Globe Road. Proceed southwesterly about a mile and cross over I-540. The tank will be 0.3 miles further, on your left.
