La portada de piedra del lado de la epístola es renacentista, con un arco de medio punto franqueado por columnillas jónicas sobre pilastras, con medallones en las enjutas y frontón de coronación.
"La iglesia de Santiago Apóstol en Torremayor (Badajoz) se cree que fue construida entre los siglos XIII y XV. Aunque no hay una fecha exacta de origen, se sabe que en el siglo XV hubo remodelaciones importantes. El retablo mayor de la iglesia data del siglo XVI.
Iglesia parroquial católica bajo la advocación de Santiago Apóstol, en la Archidiócesis de Mérida-Badajoz. Interesante edificio en fábrica de mampostería y sillares de granito.
Cuenta con una planta de una sola nave dividida en cuatro tramos con una cubierta de bóveda de cañón sobre cuatro arcos fajones. La cabecera tiene dos ámbitos, el presbiterio, y el altar mayor con bóveda de crucería.
Los contrafuertes de sillería rodean todo el templo.

Sobre el cuerpo bajo de la torre, formado por un placado isódano de sillares, se abre la portada principal, de aspecto recio, con arco de medio punto. Sobre ella se abre una ventana adintelada con marco de casetones en punta de diamante, rodeado de un conjunto decorativo igual al de la portada del Evangelio.
El retablo mayor data del siglo XVI y es plateresco. No se hizo para la capilla mayor sino que se piensa que procede de otra parroquia. Es de planta recta, con banco de dos cuerpos y tres calles. Los dos cuerpos del retablo muestran cuatro tablas con la imagen de Santiago matamoros.
La iconografía a la izquierda del sagrario representa a Cristo amarrado a la columna, y a la derecha, una figura femenina, de porte distinguido, con un báculo a la derecha y una rosa a la izquierda. La Anunciación y la oración en el huerto se representan en el primer cuerpo. Las tablas del segundo y la imagen titular se refieren a temas jacobeos.
En el ático se representa el Descendimiento en vez de la Crucifixión como suele ser normal".

It has a single nave divided into four bays with a barrel-vaulted roof over four transverse arches. The chancel has two areas: the presbytery and the high altar with a ribbed vault.
The ashlar buttresses surround the entire church.
The Epistle-side portal is Renaissance, with a semicircular arch flanked by small Ionic columns on pilasters, with medallions in the spandrels and a crowning pediment. Above the lower section of the tower, formed by an isodanic ashlar paneling, is the main portal, with a sturdy appearance and a semicircular arch. Above it, there is a lintelled window with a diamond-shaped coffered frame, surrounded by a decorative ensemble similar to that of the Gospel portal.
The main altarpiece dates from the 16th century and is Plateresque. It was not made for the main chapel but is thought to have come from another parish. It has a straight floor plan, with a two-section pew and three sections. The two sections of the altarpiece display four panels with the image of Saint James the Moor-slayer.
The iconography to the left of the tabernacle depicts Christ tied to the column, and to the right, a distinguished-looking female figure, holding a crosier in her right and a rose in her left. The Annunciation and the prayer in the garden are depicted in the first section. The panels in the second section and the main image refer to Jacobean themes.
The Descent from the Cross is depicted in the attic instead of the Crucifixion, as is usual."
