An attractive small sundial in a rural pioneer cemetery.

This exquisite little sundial stands on a pedestal between the grave markers of August Ruge and his wife Mary in the Emmanuel Evangelical Cemetery, which was established in 1872. The face of the dial is inscribed" Light Follows Darkness" and the front of the pedestal reads "The Hours Part Us But They Bring Us Together Again"
The Ruge family were early settlers in the area. August, who lived to age 99, was the only survivor of eight children. His siblings were among the first burials here.
