The town of Troon lies on the Firth of Clyde coast of Ayrshire on the west coast of Scotland. The town's war memorial was erected in 1924 on the esplanade of the South Beach, and features a depiction of Britannia looking out to sea. After World War II, a wall was added to the rear above a bench and a bronze tablet was placed with the names of 68 local men lost during the war. An inscription at the rear of the wall reads:
'AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING - WE WILL REMEMBER THEM'
