Al Arish is one of the coastal villages which were abandoned due to the collapse of the old ways of living. Traditionally these communities lived from picking oysters. However, more aggressive providers - like Japan - caused problems. Fortunately for Qatar when things looked really miserable oil was found and... that's a well known story.

So nowadays it's possible to roam what's left of this village and the mosque is now as before the most important sight. The minaret remains, proudly challenge time and lack of maintenance although some kind of intervention may had happened. Some of the walls of the mosque also survived.
