This is one of Canon City's older cemeteries. Some of the oldest head stones date back to the mid 1800's. Also at the back of the cemetery on top of the also known as boot hill is where the Colorado Department of Correction used to bury the inmates. Some of the markers have names on them but most of them do not. It will just say inmate on the metal marker. Inmates are no longer buried here. At the front of the cemetery the is a book of names and it tells which plot they are in.
When you go the the back of the cemetery on the hill you will see why its called boot hill.
There are 200+ graves in this cemetery.
