Soldiers' Monument contains a 7.5' high, Italian marble, statue of an allegorical female figure representing America set on a 12' by 12' by 12' granite base. The female figure is wearing classical robes. Her right arm is bent across her chest to her left side and she is holding a wreath in her right hand. Her left hand holds a staff which rests beside her feet. An eagle is perched at the left side of her feet.

The monument was sculpted by Larkin Goldsmith Mead and dedicated on August 20, 1868.

The west facing lower block of the base contains the dedication:
