Dr. J. D. Kirkpatrick was but fifty-two years of age at the time of his death, passing just a few days before his birthday. According to his brief obituary (available at the link) he left an "old mother and a young wife." His Woodman of the World grave marker is styled as a brown tree stump with cut branches and a forked top, set on a base of cut logs that are adorned with leaves and ivy. The inscription is:
