"Humilladero is a Spanish municipality in the province of Málaga, Andalusia, located in the Antequera region.

By road it is located 67 km from Malaga and 521 km from Madrid. It is located in the northern area of ??the Antequera region, whose distance from Antequera is 18 km.

The first data on the founding of this municipality appear on the stone that serves as the base of the Cruz de Humilladero, from which this town possibly took its name, and places the date of the foundation in 1618, but it is very likely that this date corresponds to a restoration carried out later, since according to existing documents in the municipal archive of Antequera, it dates back to the 15th century (1410). The reason for the founding of the town would be the existence of a large farm called El Convento, around which the homes of its workers were built.

Its name is associated with the conquest of Antequera, when the army commanded by the Infante Don Fernando, regent of Castile, already in Antequera lands, was joined by other troops, including the forces from Seville and commanded by Don Per Afan de Ribera. , who brought with him the sword of San Fernando. The Infante went out to meet the latter and, kneeling, kissed the sword, swearing not to keep it until he had conquered Antequera. Next, humiliated on their knees, the other knights took the same oath. Once the city was conquered, the place where the Infante received the sword from Fernando III was marked with a stone cross. The Catholic Monarchs would stop at said Cross on their way to Granada."
