The town clock is located in the heart of Orchards in front of a mural depicting the early community painted by Guy Drennan and Linda Peterson 2003. Orchards was formerly called Fourth Plain. When the Hudson's Bay Company first occupied Fort Vancouver in late 1820's, they numbered their grazing plains consecutively, 1-6, from their headquarters along the Columbia River. The present day Orchards was in the fourth plain. The residents of the area wanted a name that would identify their town. There were great tracts of fruit trees there, especially prune trees, so they chose the name Orchards.Instructions for logging waymark: A photograph is required of you (or your GPS receiver, if you are waymarking solo) and the town clock.
