On April 8, 1942, Polish soldiers marching with civilian refugees from Pahlevi in Iran to Palestine encountered a Persian boy carrying a small brown bear. The mother bear was most likely shot by hunters.

In August 1942, the bear was given to the 22nd artillery supply company.

The bear couldn't eat yet and the soldiers fed him condensed milk mixed with water from a vodka bottle and a pacifier made of rags.

The animal was officially included in the records of the 22nd artillery supply company, with which the unit went through the entire combat route: from Iran through Iraq, Palestine, Egypt to Italy, and after demobilization to Great Britain.

The monument is made of concrete, in natural sizes.

Wojtek the Bear was not only the living mascot of the unit, but also took part in battles, mainly carrying ammunition for cannons.
