The Thief and Pigeon House is the former prison of Capelle Castle, which dates from 1612. It is located on Nieuwe Laan in Capelle aan den IJssel.
It is the only part of the castle that has been preserved. It was large enough to house two prisoners. On top of a wooden loft were homing pigeons that, unlike the prisoners, could fly freely. The house owes its name to this. Nearby was a gallows to hang serious criminals.
It was used as a prisoner's quarters until the 19th century, and it is now the smallest museum in the Netherlands.
