El Obelisco a los Niños Héroes o Monumento de Chapultepec es un monumento eregido en 1881 con el fin de conmemorar a los Niños Héroes y a los militares caídos en la Batalla de Chapultepec.

El Obelisco es un cuerpo rectangular conformado por tres estructuras que disminuyen su tamaño a medida que ascienden; en la primera columna se observa una palma dorada y los nombres de los Niños Héroes coronados por un medallón con un águila devorando una serpiente; la segunda tiene inscrita la fecha 13 de septiembre de 1847, y en la base se lee la dedicatoria: “A la memoria de los alumnos del Colegio Militar que murieron como héroes en la invasión norteamericana”. A los costados está un enrejado flanqueado por cuatro pilastras. El monumento fue donado por la Asociación del Colegio Militar, siendo presidente el General Abraham González.

El obelisco fue construido entre 1880 y 1881, siendo Sóstenes Rocha director del Colegio Militar, quien gestionó ante el entonces presidente Manuel González los fondos para construirlo.1? El proyecto fue encargado al arquitecto Ramón Rodríguez Arangoiti, quien al momento de la Batalla de Chapultepec era cadete del Colegio Militar. Arangoiti era familiar a las obras realizadas en el entorno del bosque al ser el responsable del paisajismo en torno al Paseo del Emperador —hoy Paseo de la Reforma— así como las obras de remodelación del Alcázar del Castillo de Chapultepec. El monumento fue inaugurado el 13 de septiembre de 1882 por Manuel González.

The Obelisk is a rectangular body made up of three structures that decrease in size as they ascend; In the first column there is a golden palm and the names of the Child Heroes crowned by a medallion with an eagle devouring a snake; The second has the date September 13, 1847 inscribed, and at the base the dedication reads: “To the memory of the students of the Military College who died as heroes in the North American invasion.” On the sides is a lattice flanked by four pilasters. The monument was donated by the Military College Association, with General Abraham González being president.

The obelisk was built between 1880 and 1881, with Sóstenes Rocha being director of the Military College, who negotiated with the then president Manuel González the funds to build it.1 The project was commissioned to the architect Ramón Rodríguez Arangoiti, who at the time of the Battle of Chapultepec He was a cadet at the Military College. Arangoiti was familiar with the works carried out in the forest surroundings as he was responsible for the landscaping around the Paseo del Emperador – today Paseo de la Reforma – as well as the remodeling works of the Alcázar of the Chapultepec Castle. The monument was inaugurated on September 13, 1882 by Manuel González.
