About the Mill
"The Leyssensmolen is a post mill in Kattenbos in the Belgian municipality of Lommel. It is also called Treitermolen or Kattenbossermolen.
The mill was built in 1797 and was originally located in Olmen. It was built by the owner of a watermill, namely the Straalmolen, as a protest against the establishment in the vicinity of the so-called 'free mills', which could arise when the seigneurial rights, and thus the ban mills, were abolished in the French period. . One of these free mills was the Heimolen, another standard mill. That is why the Leyssens mill was also called the treiter mill. It has always served as a flour mill. The Straalmolen was owned by the Leyssens family."
