Bat Motel - Jamestown, PA - Bat Boxes on Waymarking.com

This elevated bat condo is located along West Lake Road in Pymatuning State Park near Jamestown, Pennsylvania. The sign on the side of the building says, "Bat Motel."

Two nearby interpretive signs provide information about bats in Pennsylvania and the various types of homes that can be built for them. According to the sign, the "Bat Motel" is the type called a "bat condo," and can house thousands of bats. The sign also notes that "bat houses or larger bat condos serve as artificial roosts to discourage bats from living in buildings and to provide bats with more places to live." Interestingly, the sign notes that up to four different species of bats may live together in a colony in a bat house in Pennsylvania, including Myotis lucifugus, Eptesicus fuscus, Myotis sodalis, and Myotis septentrionalis.

There is a dirt driveway near the site where one can pull off to view the bat house and read the interpretive signs.
