"Santiago de Zebedeo, también conocido como Santiago el Mayor, fue, según diversos textos neotestamentarios (Evangelios sinópticos, Hechos de los Apóstoles), uno de los apóstoles más destacados de Jesús de Nazaret. Es conocido en la tradición cristiana como Santiago el Mayor para distinguirlo de otro miembro del grupo de los doce, Santiago el Menor. Nacido probablemente en Betsaida (Galilea), fue hijo de Zebedeo y Salomé, y hermano de Juan. Santiago de Zebedeo pertenecía al llamado «círculo de dilectos» de Jesús que estuvo con él en ocasiones especiales: en la resurrección de la hija de Jairo, en la transfiguración y en el huerto de Getsemaní, donde Jesús se retiró a orar en agonía ante la perspectiva de su pasión y muerte. También fue testigo privilegiado de las apariciones de Jesús resucitado y de la pesca milagrosa en el mar de Tiberíades. Según el libro de los Hechos de los Apóstoles, Pentecostés encontró a Santiago en espera orante, siempre como uno de los máximos referentes de la primera comunidad cristiana, junto con Simón Pedro y Juan. Murió a manos de Herodes Agripa I en Jerusalén entre los años 41 y 44 de nuestra era. Es el patrono de España."

James of Zebedee belonged to the so-called "circle of loved ones" of Jesus who was with him on special occasions: at the resurrection of Jairus' daughter, at the transfiguration and in the garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus retired to pray in agony at the prospect of his passion and death. He was also a privileged witness of the appearances of Jesus resurrected and the miraculous fishing in the Sea of ??Tiberias. According to the book of the Acts of the Apostles, Pentecost found Santiago in prayerful waiting, always as one of the greatest references of the first Christian community, along with Simon Peter and John. He died at the hands of Herod Agrippa I in Jerusalem between the years 41 and 44 AD. "He is the patron saint of Spain."
