The Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank (BLKB) has set up 150 benches with historical information throughout the canton of Basel-Landschaft for its 150th anniversary. Each bank contains a different year and a sign with historical information about the place.

The text:

"Wahlen 1942

Why is Wahlen called Wahlen? Does the name derive from the Latin "vallum", which is synonymous with rampart and fortification? It's possible. Then we know from archaeological finds that the area of today's village was not only settled by Celts and Alemanni, but also by Romans in between. Wahlen also lies on an old Roman military road. But perhaps the Alemannic "Walch", which means "speaking a Romanic or Celtic language", influenced the name.
Wahlen has belonged to the canton of Baselland since 1994 and, as an intact farming village, maintains its many natural advantages, which have made it a friendly, varied and yet peaceful recreational area in the southern part of the Laufental.

(150 benches have been donated by the Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank on the occasion of its 150th anniversary. All bear a year from the year of foundation 1864 until the year of the anniversary in 2014.
The installation of the bench was made possible by the Burgerkorporation Wahlen.)"

Die Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank (BLKB) hat zu ihren 150-jährigen Jubiläum 150 Sitzbänke mit historischen Informationen im ganzen Kanton Basel-Lanfdschaft aufstellen lassen. Jede Bank enthält eine andere Jahreszahl und ein Schild mit historischen Informationen über den Ort.

"Wahlen 1942

Warum heisst Wahlen so? Stammt der Name von lateinischen "vallum" ab, was gleichbedeutend ist mit Wall und Befestigung? Möglich wär's. Dann aus archäologischen Funden weiss man, dass die Gegend des heutigen Dorfes nicht nur von Kelten und Alemannen besiedelt war, sondern dazwischen eben auch von Römern. Ausserdem liegt Wahlen an einer alten römischen Heerstrasse. Aber vielleicht hat das alemannische "Walch" den Namen geprägt, was nichts anderes bedeutet als "Welsch".
Seit 1994 gehört Wahlen zum Kanton Baselland, pflegt als intaktes Bauerndorf sein vielen natürlichen Vorteile, die es zu einem freundlichen, abwechslungsreichen und dennoch ruhigen Naherholungsgebiet im südlichen Teil der Laufentals gemacht haben.
