Cinema Miami opened in 1939, initially as a "pleine air" theater, which means there were no walls. It was active during the Summer, from May to September.
It's located in Talaat Harb Street (formerly Soliman Pasha Street) and it's clearly an Art Deco building although it's most characteristic feature, a tower, was demolished in previous renovation works.
In November 1947 a bomb exploded in the room, killing a person and causing thirty wounded. Apparently the bomb exploded when the Egyptian national anthem was being played, before the movie,m as it was customary.
It is said that King Farouk was a usual customer of this cinema and he even had a royal armchair brought to the cinema.
