Albert Matheussen lived to be a hundred years old, passing just a month shy of his next birthday. Born in Belgium, Albert served in the Merchant Marines and made his way to Texas before moving to Chickasha. Born long before man's first powered flight and even before the first practical automobile, he lived to see the Apollo Moon landings and Skylab and to drive on the Interstate Highway System. Some of the events he witnessed during his long life include:

1880 - Thomas Edison patents his incandescent light bulb
1890 - The Oklahoma Organic Act establishes the Oklahoma Territory
1900 - The U.S. and Britain sign a treaty to construct a shipping canal through Nicaragua
1910 - First commercial flight of a Zeppelin
1920 - German politician Adolf Hitler presents his National Socialist Program
1930 - First patent of a field-effect transistor
1940 - Germany invades France
1950 - Klaus Fuchs exposed as a Russian spy
