Walking through this wetland, outside the noise of the city, where the only sound you hear is that of the birds that surround you, is when you realize that human beings are losing the pleasures that nature gives them.
In a circular route, around the entire artificial wetland, it does not reach two kilometers, we can mainly observe ducks and turtles, but depending on the time of year you can see specimens of gray heron, golden martinet, blue cock, chibec, morell de red head and white hammer. At these times of the year, in order not to disturb the temporary fauna that rests in this place to later continue its emigration, on one of the bridges that cross the canal there is a viewpoint made of wooden slats so as not to disturb their rest.
"The wetland area of the Baix Llobregat Campus, popularly known as Olla del Rei, is a wetland area of high ecological value located in the municipality of Castelldefels, whose lagoon was created in 1998 next to the UPC campus (made up of various faculties and research centers). It is a set of interconnected canals, marshes and lagoons, surrounded by an area with habitats of European interest such as riverside forests or marshes with protected habitats, which is used above all by Campus students as a space for leisure, by residents and naturalists of the Baix Llobregat. The system receives water through the municipality's Maestro corridor, and circulation is controlled through various regulatory mechanisms (interceptors, overflows, etc.). The space has evolved very favorably. since its creation, to the point of housing interesting species of birds, reptiles, invertebrates or plants.
The name of this artificial pond comes from a legend of late medieval origin that was collected by Teodor Creus and Joan Amades. This legend says that the poisoning of Prince Carlos de Viana caused the Catalan Civil War. Once finished, King John II went hunting for a day in the south of the Llobregat delta. The difficulties of the terrain, full of ponds, reed beds and osier trees, caused the king to lose his way. It was then that a peasant appeared who, by deception, led him further astray and he ended up falling into one of the ponds, which the local peasantry called pots, where he spent the night. The next day a girl found him who notified the people of Castelldefels and he was lodged in the castle of this town. Despite the care, the king became feverish and died shortly after. The peasant was the specter of Prince Charles, who thus exacted revenge.
There is historical data surrounding the events collected in the legend. There are several references to the royal chronicles of the king's practice of hunting and his stays in the castle of Castelldefels. Teodoro Creus, citing the royal chronicler Pere Miquel Carbonell, places the hunt in mid-December 1478. The king died on January 19, 1479 due to fever, as the same royal chronicler also states. The pond where the king fell was named the King's Pot, despite not being able to know its location today, since it was dried up during the drainage works of the marshes promoted by the baronesses of Eramprunyà and owners of the castle of Castelldefels, "Maria Vidal (1732-1762) and Caietana de Copons (1737-1765)."
