[EN] “The Pillory of Almorox, is a monument located in the Main Square of the town, which symbolizes the independence of the municipality from the Duchy of Escalona, and the acquisition of the rights of the town in 1566, in the time of Philip II, by means of a Royal Decree signed in Uclés on April 11 of that same year. It is at this moment when Almorox acquires its legal and political autonomy from the feudal power.

It is a granite column, eight meters high, located on a quadrangular tier made up of five steps or steps. It has a base supported on a plinth, formed by a double torus (concave molding) and a scotland (convex molding). Its shaft is smooth, interrupted in its upper section by a thin collar (ring) followed by a stone ornament, formed by four rampant lions arranged like gargoyles. Between this element and the upper vertex of the column appears, on one of the faces, a shield in relief with the inscription of the year 1566. A temple with openwork walls, formed by four Ionic columns in the corners, ending in pinnacles, finishes this monument.

According to the Count of Cedillo, it would correspond to the group of Renaissance pillories.”
