This unique sundial, of natural stones and posts, is near the parking area for Acton Nature Center. To use this sundial, you are the gonom! Stand on the plate for the current date and see where your shadow is cast. Raise your arms above your head if necessary.
Scientific Principle(s) being demonstrated:
The sundial requires your interaction in order to see the principle of your shadow hitting the correct hour of the sundial. By standing on the correct date, the shadow of your upstretched arm will let you know what time of day it is.
Briefly explain if the experiment was effective for you. Could it have been better?:
The sundial worked as advertised; by standing on the correct location and raising our arms, the shadow we cast was within fifteen minutes of what the cell phone said the time was.
