‘Ter ere van ons tweede lustrum organiseerden we een groot energiesymposium en daarvoor waren we op zoek naar een tastbare herinnering’, herinnert Bas Wienbelt zich. De oud-student werktuigbouwkunde was in 1975 voorzitter van Isaac Newton. Volgens het lustrumboek uit 1975 moet die herinnering een ‘typisch werktuigbouwkundig ding’ zijn. De criteria waren: groot, van ijzer, met veel bouten, moeren en stangen en pijpen en het moest liefst ook nog kunnen bewegen.
Wienbelt: ‘Als studievereniging hadden we contacten met veel grote bedrijven, dus ook met de NAM. We hebben toen specifiek gevraagd naar een jaknikker, want we dachten dat zoiets erg zou aanspreken. Bovendien paste het goed bij het thema van ons lustrumsymposium ‘energie, nu en morgen’.
