La Academia de Cine Europea (European Film Academy-EFA) ha concedido al desierto de Tabernas (Almería) el título «Tesoro de la Cultura Cinematográfica Europea», ha informado este martes el Ayuntamiento del municipio almeriense que da nombre a esta extensión desértica.
Con este reconocimiento se pone en valor este paraje natural que ha acogido más de 300 rodajes de películas desde 1950 hasta la actualidad, un escenario cinematográfico que destacó por los «spaghetti western» conocidos a «nivel mundial entre los años 60 y 70 y dónde actualmente se registra una gran actividad con todo tipo de rodajes y algunas superproducciones».
La figura central de la época dorada del «western europeo» fue Sergio Leone y su mítica «Trilogía del dólar» que encumbró la carrera de Clint Eastwood con «Per un pugno di dollari» (1964), «Per qualche dollaro in più» (1965) y «Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo» (1966). También es de destacar «El halcón y la presa» (1967), «C'era una volta il West» ó «Shalako», ambas de 1968, «100 rifles» (1969), «El condor» (1970) o «Soleil rouge» (1971), entre otros muchos de Terence Young. Y cientos de películas, como algunas de la saga de Bud Spencer y Terence Hill. Más recientemente «800 balas» (2002), «Blueberry» (2003), «Los Dalton contra Lucky Luke» (2005), «Brimston» (2016) o «The Sister Brothers» (2018).
El desierto de Tabernas también ha sido escenario europeo elegido por grandes producciones internacionales como «Lawrence of Arabia» (1962), «Cleopatra» (1963), «Patton» (1970), «Conan the barbarian» (1982), «Indiana Jones and the last crusade» (1989) o «Exodus, Gods and Kings» (2014) y series como «Doctor Who», «Penny Dreadful», «Black Mirror» o «Games of Thrones». Y cientos de videoclips y anuncios de publicidad de «reconocidas marcas internacionales».
«Para nosotros es un gran orgullo que la EFA nos distinga como uno de los Tesoros de la Cultura Cinematográfica Europea, pues deja patente la extraordinaria vinculación de nuestra localidad a la historia del cine en general y al europeo en particular, además del esfuerzo que hemos hecho durante todo este tiempo para prestar servicio a todo tipo de producciones», ha dicho José Díaz, alcalde de la localidad de Tabernas.
El municipio de Tabernas acoge el «Almería Western Film Festival», único de su género en Europa que convoca cada año a aficionados y profesionales en relación con el «western», poniendo en valor el entorno del desierto como destino de cine.
Con el reconocimiento «Tesoro de la Cultura Cinematográfica Europea», la Academia de Cine Europea desea sensibilizar al público sobre los «lugares de naturaleza simbólica para el cine del continente, lugares de valor histórico que deben mantenerse y protegerse».
«Esta ubicación icónica no tiene igual en el continente, y su contribución al cine mundial ha sido enorme», señala el presidente de la EFA, Mike Downey. «La Academia Europea de Cine se enorgullece de haber rodado varias de sus películas a competición en la región, especialmente »Sexy bestia« de Jonathan Glazer, »Brimstone« de Martin Koolhoven, »Morvern Callar« de Lynne Ramsay y »Brothers« de Susanne Bier. ¡Que Tabernas prospere en el escenario cinematográfico del mundo!», ha apostillado.
El Paraje Natural Desierto de Tabernas, declarado en 1989, considerado como la única zona desértica de todo el continente europeo, cuenta con una extensión de 280 kilómetros cuadrados y comprende cinco municipios (Tabernas, Gádor, Santa Cruz de Marchena, Alboloduy y Gérgal).

«For us it is a great pride that the EFA distinguishes us as one of the Treasures of European Cinematographic Culture, as it makes clear the extraordinary connection of our town to the history of cinema in general and European cinema in particular, in addition to the effort we have done during all this time to provide service to all types of productions," said José Díaz, mayor of the town of Tabernas.
The municipality of Tabernas hosts the "Almería Western Film Festival", the only one of its kind in Europe that brings together amateurs and professionals each year in relation to the "western", highlighting the desert environment as a film destination.
With the recognition "Treasure of European Film Culture", the European Film Academy wants to raise public awareness about "places of a symbolic nature for the continent's cinema, places of historical value that must be maintained and protected."
