This bench mark is an azimuth marker but is the only remaining marker of the set originally place in this area. The two reference markers mentioned in the PID were removed when sidewalks were replaced. This remaining marker is in good condition.

The benchmark is an azimuth marker that used to have two other reference markers close by. However recent neighborhood improvements/alterations to the sidewalks in the immediate area were the cause of the two reference markers mentioned in the PID AY1654 being removed. Google Maps showed disk shapes in the appropriate coordinate areas detailed in the PID for these reference markers. Unfortunately, the new sidewalk repairs were done in those same areas where the reference markers should have been but are now only sidewalks or bare ground.

The Buckeye disk placed in 1953 was safe and sound, as well as found, on a triangular "land island" formed by the convergence of theses three streets: Fredericksburg Road, N. Calaveras Street, and W. Summit Avenue. The Buckeye bench mark is near the middle area of this land triangle. Approaching the disk from W. Summit Ave. is the safest and shortest way to it.

The Buckeye disk was covered with grassy weeds and had a very thin layer of sand over it. This was due to it being at ground level and unvisited since 1995. I used a Garrett Pin Pointer metal detector to verify were the disk actually was before I removed only enough grass to uncover the disk.

The placement of this Buckeye disc into the cement monument was done in a manner that covered some of the debossed text on the outside edge of the disk. However, the critical information in the center is easily readable. Around the edge of the disk there are three rows of text. The center part of the disk is where the name and placement date are found. The discernible text and markings are as shown below:

Outer ring of text:

U. S. COAST & GEODETIC SURVEY

Middle ring of text:

FOR INFORMATION WRITE TO THE DIRECTOR, WASHINGTON, D.C.

Inner ring of text
$250 FINE OR IMPRISONMENT FOR DISTURBING THIS MARK.
