At the junction of De Chantle Road with Fredericksburg Road in NW San Antonio and along the side of the corner store of the strip mall at 3701 Frederecksburg Road is a grassy area between the side of the small strip mall found here and the edge of De Chantle Road. A telephone pole with a single guy wire support is all that appears to be here. However, about 6 feet East of the telephone pole is a bench mark of a steel rod inside a pipe with a cover. This bench mark is covered with a metal lid and may get covered by the grass and weeds that grow around this marker and the telephone pole. The marker and its cover is aligned under the guy wire that is stabilizes the telephone pole. Over time, the vegetation will cover the lid and make it difficult to find. A metal detector may be useful in finding the bench marker's lid if it has gotten covered over.
This bench mark has "Access Cover" in raised print on the center of the lid. Around the edge of the collar to which the lid is attached and inside which is found the steel rod, has several sections of text circling the lid. The three sections of text read as follows:
Left section of text:
Vertical Control Mark
Unlawful to disturb
Center section of text:

Right section of text:

Be careful when the lid it open so that it is not bumped or struck. This warning is based on having found several steel rod bench marks that have missing lids!
