San Antonio Pioneer Mills Flag (AY1874) - San Antonio, Texas USA - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

The Pioneer Mills have been an economic success in San Antonio since it was built here in San Antonio, TX in 1859 by Carl Hilmar Guenther. The present mill works is a short distance down river from the first location Guenther developed as his flour mill. His homestead is between the two locations. The mills used the water flow of the San Antonio River to grind the grains into flours. The large warehouse building where the finished bags of flour were stored is the same building on which the flag pole is mounted.

For the best visual line of sight of the bench marked flag pole is from the SSW side of the property, along South Alamo Street. S. Alamo Street is one of the boundary lines of the Pioneer Mills property. The parking lot between the street and the Pioneer Mill warehouse is an ideal location for photographing the flag pole with a telephoto lens.
