15. The INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER COMPANY MOTOR TRUCK PLANT (open 9-12 Mon.-Fr.) occupies 137 acres at the intersection of Pontiac St., extended, and the Bueter Road. Six factory buildings have 996,000 square feet of floor space. An 80-acre proving ground is maintained for the testing of motor trucks. Daily capacity is about 175 trucks. Normally, there are about 4,000 employees. -Indiana: A Guide to the Hoosier State 1941

The International Harvester(IH) factory is another one of those in the guide that is no more. During the automobile depression of the early 1980's that almost bankrupted Chrysler, IH began to sell off its divisions piece by piece to try to stay in business. Sadly the last vehicle rolled off the line here in the early 1980's and the test track closed in 2015.
