In 1903, planning began for a monument in honor of the “Iron Chancellor” Otto von Bismarck. Typical of the Wilhelmine period, it had to be grand and gigantic - a tower with a lighting device (fire column), 42m high.

After delays during the construction, the inauguration took place in the summer season of 1907. The entrance fee in 1913 was 20 pfennigs. The Bismarkwarte counted 12 to 17 thousand visitors every year.

After the Second World War, a Soviet Army commando blew up the tower so that anti-aircraft guns could be installed on the foundations. The signs of this demolition can still be seen today in the bark scars of the old beech trees.
