Sušice is one of the starting points into the region of the central Šumava mountains. The town is situated at Šumava foothills on the crossroads of tourist paths at the border of the Šumava National Park (established in 1991). With its 69 030 hectares, the Šumava National Park has the largest area amongst all three national parks of the Czech Republic.

Voprchovsky house stands on the square in Susice. During Renaissance renovations around 1600, it acquired a high attic with a bell tower, which is unique in Bohemia. It was formerly a deanery, and nowadays the building houses the Šumava Museum.

The late Gothic house from the 14th century is one of the most beautiful houses on the square. The house is rich in interesting architectural elements. The entrance retains a late Gothic arched entrance portal, which opens into a large, ground floor hall, the so-called mazhaus. The high Renaissance attic dates from a rebuilding around 1600. The rectangular profiled windows, arches and the remains of Renaissance decorative paintings are also Renaissance. However, the actual fabric of the house is Gothic from the foundations to the gable. In 2013, part of the former city walls and the former 14th-century guardhouse were completed and made accessible. The former burgher's law house has served as the seat of the deanery since the end of the 18th century, and since 1934 it has housed the Šumava Museum.

The museum's permanent exhibition houses the so-called Sušický tin treasure, an exposition of the sulphur industry, the Sušický mechanical Bethlehem and the Bruno Schreiber glass collection.
