The town Prachatice is one the most beautiful towns in South Bohemia. The Late-Gothic and Renaissance face of the historical centre of the town has been preserved up till this day, because of a long building stagnation, which lasted for hundreds of years.
The Lower Gate, also called Písecká, is located at the entrance to the historic city center from Malé námestí, i.e. north of the church of St. Jacob the Greater.
The Lower Gate is part of the medieval city fortifications, which Prachatice, as a border town, had to pay a lot of attention to in the past.
Its front (north-east) wall with the aforementioned painting of a rider, inscriptions and roses, including the corner bossing, was restored in 2007. In the following year, the restoration of the entire facade of the tower was completed with the repair of the remaining three sides, as part of which the Rosenberg heraldic five-leaf roses were restored in the niches of the attic of the tower battlement, the corner bosses were repaired, including the structural plaster in the areas.
Josef Krejsa (14 March 1896, Husinec - 21 April 1941, Husinec) was a Czech painter and graphic artist. He worked in the painting studio of the National Theatre and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under Max Pirner. His paintings concern themes of Czech history.
