"Este lugar es el heredero de siglos de beneficencia cristiana en Trigueros. De hecho, en este lugar se fusionaron los tres hospitales que ya prestaban sus servicios en 1468: el de Santa Brígida, el de San Blas y el de San Antonio Abad. Se componía arquitectónicamente de dos sectores, uno destinado a la asistencia sanitaria y el otro al servicio religioso. El 1 de noviembre de 1755, al igual que todas las ermitas de la población, quedó arruinado todo el complejo debido al Terremoto de Lisboa. Subsanados sus daños de inmediato, el Hospital continuó prestando sus servicios hasta el segundo cuarto del S. XIX, momento en el que, con la Revolución Liberal, muchas actividades sociales fueron secularizadas.
El 2 de noviembre de 1876, ante la insistencia del Ayuntamiento de ocupar la Capilla para instalar las Escuelas Públicas, el Gobernador Eclesiástico ordena que se construyera una ermita contigua a las escuelas de niños. El edificio actual fue construido bajo la dirección técnica del arquitecto D. Ricardo Anadón Frutos. Está presidido por la imagen procesional de San Antonio Abad, que es de vestir y presenta claros signos de ancianidad venerable. El retablo, procedente de la Iglesia Parroquial de Trigueros, se trata de una obra del S. XVIII. Fue encargado al maestro escultor Miguel Franco, contando con la posterior intervención de Pedro Duque Cornejo y Pedro Roldán Villavicencio. El dorado fue encomendado a Nicolás López, contando con la ayuda del dorador triguereño Juan Hidalgo. Tanto las paredes como las bóvedas de este emblemático lugar para los triguereños han sido decoradas con pinturas alusivas al Santo Protector de la Villa, realizadas por el pintor sanjuanero Félix Espinosa Lamparero."

"This place is the heir of centuries of Christian charity in Trigueros.
