"La posible historia de la Hermandad del Rocío de Moguer se enmarca en una dicotomía de difícil solución. Por un lado una historia ininterrumpida desde hace más de trescientos años, y por otro, una casi total ausencia de datos hasta los años treinta del siglo veinte.
La continuidad de la Hermandad es patente cuando nos movemos en un mundo, como el rociero, donde la antigüedad la define, precisamente, esa constante presencia ante la Blanca Paloma.
Pero junto a ese hecho de la constancia, nos encontramos que las fuentes históricas escritas son contumaces en su silencio sobre las actividades de esos moguereños rocieros.
La principal fuente es un pleito, entre la Hermandad de Moguer y el entonces vicario moguereño, donde se cita que la Hermandad se había creado hacía más de cuarenta años. El documento encontrado en el archivo del Palacio arzobispal sevillano, es de 1758 y es lo que ha dado lugar a que se tome como fecha de fundación, el siglo XVII, 1.718 o siglo XVIII. Y es que, además, hasta en esto el Rocío es especial. El origen legendario del Rocío lo circunscribe al siglo XV, pero curiosamente hay argumentos para aseverar que ya existía una devoción a una Virgen situada en Las Rocinas en el siglo XIV, veáse el Libro de Monterías de Alfonso XI."
