"The Contarini del Bovolo palace or Contarini del Bovolo Minelli palace is a late-Gothic Italian building located in the San Marco setiere in Venice, near Campo Manin, facing the San Luca River.

The palace dates back to the 15th century, built by the Contarini family, who were nicknamed "bovolo" (snail shell) for attaching a striking spiral staircase to the façade. In 1717 the building passed into the hands of Giovanni Minelli, married to Elisabetta di Pietro Maria Contarini, the last representative of the family. In 1803 it was converted into a hotel and in 1852 it was transferred by will to the parish of San Luca, later converted into the headquarters of the "Congregazione di carità."

As the building is located between the San Luca river and the Maltese square, it has two very different facades. The façade on the San Luca River is developed on four levels: the ground floor at ground level, two noble floors, and the top floor. The ground floor has portals with semicircular arches flanked by smaller monophores with similar arches, arranged on the sides on two levels and in the center on a single level.

The rear façade has a completely different design. It is characterized by the sequence of arched rectangular monophores, acquiring its maximum expression in the tower where the spiral staircase is located, called bóvolo in Veneto. The tower ends in a viewpoint crowned by a dome, decorated internally by frescoes, of which hardly any traces can be seen today."
